Christian End Times Prophecy

    There was a recent video featuring a popular prophecy teacher that caused some consternation. There was also a response to the video , which did a good job laying out the concerns some had. I finally watched both videos. While I didn't always agree with every point made in the first video that set people off, I didn't quite understand some of the response in the comments section there on YouTube. I simply listened, gave the guest teacher the benefit of the doubt, and noted internally, as I listened, what I agreed and disagreed with. Yet there was real confusion, angst, anger, and upset in the comments. Some folks even started to attack the teacher and his motives. It wasn't my reaction to that video, but I get it. 1 Peter 1:16-20 reveals the importance of prophecy. Peter saw a lot of miracles in his day. Through the power of God, he even participated in some. And yet, he tells us that prophecy, not the miraculous signs, was a more sure and confirmed word. Chuck Missler had something very interesting to say regarding the problem with chasing after signs and wonders, and why true prophecy is how God shows us when he is the one at work. Missler first establishes that the Bible tells us that Satan can do miracles, too. We see that throughout the Bible (e.g. Pharaoh's magicians), and we know he and his demonic hordes will be doing miraculous things during the tribulation. Missler explains: This presents a problem. If Satan can duplicate the miracles of God, then "signs and wonders" cannot be used as the arbiter of truth.   There was a  recent post regarding whether Christians should or should not be preppers. It's worth a read and there are quite a few good points to consider. Keep in mind the author believes Christians will be on the earth for the first four horsemen before they are raptured. My response to this question of being a prepper? It's the wrong question. The right question is: Is God asking you to prepare? When we talk to God, he'll be directing us what he wants us to do. The Word of God speaks to the Church as a whole and also to the believer, but the Holy Spirit works in each believer, speaking and working out how that will look in that believer's life and in the situations God places him or her in. Blog posts for marketing companies, strange images for video games—people love to rip concepts and allegories out of the Bible but they end up cheapening the message. In this case, the four horsemen have become a euphemism for a sign of anything negative coming your way. How many westerns have I seen where someone quotes Revelation when the gunslinger comes to town and in low undertones, we find that death and hades just rode in?  This would be a good time to read Revelation 6 yourself, just to see what it actually says. Ever day there's new horror. If you believe in the pre-tribulation rapture, and what follows, and you're also seeing what's going on in the world, you're no doubt feeling some urgency. Add to that the many prophecy teachers rightly spurring us all on to share the Gospel, and you might almost feel a bit of panic. Should you go stand on the street corner with a sign or holler a warning? Should you quit your job and become an evangelist? What you should do is what God is directing you to do, that's the real answer. I want to say something about deception. We talk about the concept of end times "birth pangs," how things that will be grow in frequency and intensity. Amidst the earthquakes and wars and famine is the trickiest sign of all: deception. It's a sign you can see, but also may not realize you're a part of. In Matthew 24 and 25, we read about the tribulation. But in 24:4 , we see Jesus telling his disciples not to be deceived. Over and over, we are reminded in the Bible to be careful about deception. It's easy enough to tally up the earthquakes, wars and bombings, pestilence, the volcanic eruptions, the near-miss asteroids, the rising push for digital currency, the growing globalism, WEF—but you can't do the same with deception. One of the most concerning things I see today in the church is a confusion or misunderstanding of Israel.  It's gotten worse over time as the church starts sliding all over the place in belief. While it might not seem like a big deal, and nothing to argue over between two believers, I wanted to do a quick listing of what I see as the outcome of this confusion and the paths that lead from it. As you can see, some are concerning and, if someone goes far enough down the path, there is real destructive potential. Did the Church replace Israel? No. Absolutely not. According to theologian Arnold G. Fruchtenbaum, if we look in the book of Acts, the term Israel is used 29 times, and the term church is used 19 times. The two groups are always noted as separate and distinct. This is seen in many other places, too.   In my morning Bible reading and study in 2 Thessalonians 2 , the phrase "the mystery of lawlessness" caught my attention in a different way. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is removed. - 2 Thess. 2:7 In this chapter, Paul is reassuring the Thessalonians that no, Christ hadn't returned. He starts the chapter reassuring them that the false spirit, the false word, or the false letter that had convinced them otherwise was wrong ( 2 Thess. 2:2 ) Stop there for a second. A false spirit (i.e. a false revelation or prophecy). A false word or message (someone spoke a lie to them directly or personally). A false letter (something written taught them a lie). Are these three modes of deception rampant today or what? Since late 2020, I've run a page on MeWe where I've shared articles, videos, and information that relate to Bible prophecy and the end times. In the summer of 2021, I added a Telegram channel. There are many views of Bible prophecy and the end times. As noted in the site description, this site takes a pre-tribulation pre-millennial dispensational view.  Very basically, I believe the rapture happens before the 7 year tribulation, of which the last half is the Great Tribulation. The rapture is imminent, which means are no signs necessary for the rapture. There are signs for things pertaining to the Second Coming of Christ, but not the rapture. Sometimes those signs throw a shadow back on how we live now, which is why people will say "signs of the times" as a way of saying "we're seeing the beginning birth pangs of what is going to happen at the end."
